Yes, what is mainstream and what is not is always a big discussion. I
have the feeling that it's always a case of sailing on the edge: too
much complacency means "mainstream" - and many people don't like
that.

But if it's too weird and too experimental - far from the mainstream -
then many people don't like it. And some people then ask
themselves: What's the point? Is it still music?
