Algorithm: In FM synthesis, an algorithm is a specific configuration of modulators and carriers that determines the final sound.
Amplitude: The loudness or volume of a sound wave, represented vertically on a waveform display.
Analog: Synthesizers that use analog circuits, such as transistors and operational amplifiers, to generate sound.
AM (Amplitude Modulation): A synthesis technique where an LFO modulates the amplitude of a sound, often used for tremolo effects.
Arpeggiator: A device or software that automatically plays arpeggios based on the notes held down on the keyboard.
Band Pass Filter (BPF): A filter that allows frequencies within a certain range to pass through while attenuating frequencies outside that range.
Carrier Wave: In FM synthesis, the tone that is modulated by the modulator wave.
Clock: A timing signal that synchronizes various elements of a synthesizer, often provided by MIDI or control voltage.
Control Voltage (CV): An analog method of controlling various parameters of a synthesizer.
Cutoff Frequency: The frequency at which a filter begins to attenuate the signal.
DCO (Digitally Controlled Oscillator): An analog oscillator whose frequency is stabilized by digital circuitry.
