I paid $39 to upgrade too, but like you say, that was the pre-order price before it came out.My upgrade/crossgrade offer during last months special promo was from Tassman to CV-2 for $39, (I did not have CV-1) with CV-3 being free when released, to anyone having bought CV-2 after Nov 15th. So, $49.00 is apparently the current previous version-owner/loyalty discount. The 25% off sale reduces the regular/list price of $199.00 to $149.00.
I guess if it's $49 now, it's an introductory price.
The site says: "....If you’ve pre-ordered Multiphonics CV‑3 or registered a new Multiphonics CV‑2 license after November 15, 2024, Multiphonics CV-3 should already be in your account today—completely free of charge..."
I've had a bit of time to start using it, and I've gotten some real good stuff from it quickly.
