Setting up an entire guitar-based band in a room together, plugged in directly to instrument inputs which are processed in real time through ampsims and each routed back out to their own separate aux outputs that are plugged into PA speakers or guitar cabs to perform the job of guitar and bass amps.
Put the drummer on an e-kit that is sending midi to MODO DRUM or Superior 3, and then back out through aux outs to a stereo pair of monitors on either side of the drummer.
Keyboardist would be set up like the drummer, playing VSTi that come through the main PA speakers.
There would be only one live mic in the room, for the vocalist to do a live scratch vocal through an SM58. It would come back with some reverb and compression through the main PA speakers as well.
The band then plays live in the room with no baffles or isolation. No multitrack overdubs except for the vocals being redone with headphones and a proper large diaphragm condenser vocal mic once the live take is recorded.
The result would be a totally live performance experience for the band, with a live feel and energy, but every instrument would be recorded in total isolation for a slick studio sound. The best of both worlds. The perfect guitar tones and drum kit could be selected after the fact.
