I genereally think that older Surfaces have better Linux support than newer ones. There's a project that tries write patches to support all Linux surfaces, and they offer a modified Kernel that contains all of their patches that didn't yet make it into the actual Linux kernel.

Apart from that, you might want to try a convertible, like one of the Lenovo Yogas. For good Linux compatibility, ensure it has been certified for use with a Linux distribution, e. g. check https://ubuntu.com/certified.
